Full Job Description
Are you passionate about supporting young people and helping them thrive in education? West Herts College Group is seeking a Group Youth Engagement and Diversion Officer to play a vital role in shaping the student experience. As Group Youth Engagement and Diversion Officer, you will work closely with our 16-18-year-old students to ensure they feel safe, supported, and engaged throughout their time at college. You'll be a key figure in promoting positive behaviour, building trust, and helping students-especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds-stay on track and believe in their potential. You will be based at our Hemel Campus with occasional travel to other campuses. Key Responsibilities
- Support the Group Head of Youth Engagement and Diversion in upholding behaviour expectations.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students to encourage open dialogue.
- Inspire and motivate young people to remain engaged in education and develop resilience.
- Assist in managing and de-escalating student incidents.
- Liaise with external agencies including the police and local authorities.
- Provide advice, guidance, and support to students on a range of issues.
- Monitor and support vulnerable students at risk of disengagement.
- Contribute to safeguarding efforts in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education.
A passionate individual with experience working with young people. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
- Knowledge of safeguarding practices and experience working with external agencies.
