Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Collins Aerospace Electronic Controls and Motor Systems, Solihull where we are working at the forefront of development of electric propulsion technologies, with motor and motor drive design being developed at our site. In 2026 we launched three new multi-year programmes as part of the Clean Aviation initiative, these programmes lead Europe in the development of technology blocks for future aircraft with entry into service expected in 2035. What you will do: Supported by our experienced engineering team you will:

• Produce design schemes including CAD models, assemblies and 2D drawings for concept and detail designs
• Support system level design including architecture and performance analysis
• Participate in test rig design, test rig commissioning and system testing
• Carry out design calculations such as thermal growth, hoop and tensile stress, thread loading and tolerance analysis to support concept and detail designs
• Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on complex components to support concept and detailed design
• Liaise closely with other project teams such as materials, manufacturing, sourcing with respect to new designs or design changes
• Promote a career in Collins Aerospace and Engineering to the next generation through events and activities with schools and universities.
In this role you will have the opportunity to work on exciting aerospace projects which will help develop your engineering and personal skills in a practical environment. These projects may lead to the opportunity to work in some of the following engineering functions:

• Simulation and Performance Analysis

There will also be opportunities to work with and gain experience in other business functions to include Project Management, Manufacturing, Environmental & Performance Testing, Quality & Supply Chain.


• You will hold a minimum 2:2 STEM degree or joint-honours degree that combines a STEM subject with another, ideally Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace based
• Sufficient technical knowledge which can be applied to aerospace mechanical systems and manufacturing
• Able to multi-task and prioritise own work
• Ability to build strong relationships and be a team player
• A can do, find a way, attitude
• Experience of delivering high quality work to a deadline
• Creativity, initiative, diplomacy, self-motivation and self-confidence
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; specifically the use of Microsoft Excel to filter, clean, identify, analyse and interpret trends or patterns in data.
