Full Job Description

As a Graduate Estimator, you'll support our Estimating Team, working closely with engineers, bid managers and commercial colleagues to ensure our proposals are accurate, competitive and clearly presented. This role offers structured training, mentoring, and hands-on experience across a wide range of projects.

  • Here are some of the activities you'll be involved in…
  • Assist in the preparation of project programmes and cost estimates for new projects.
  • Review and analyse drawings, specifications and tender documents to identify requirements and risks.
  • Obtain and analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations to support accurate pricing.
  • Attend site visits with the bid team.
  • Manage risk registers and compile pricing clarifications.
  • Support with preparing Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and take-offs from drawings.
  • Work closely with design, procurement and project delivery teams to ensure estimates align with project scope and methodology, including agreeing and signing off resource requirements and outputs.
  • Contribute to value engineering exercises to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Maintain an organised database of supplier rates, historical project costs and benchmarking data.
  • Assist in post-tender reviews and handovers to project teams.

You're degree-qualified in a relevant discipline such as Quantity Surveying, Civil or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, and you're keen to build your career within an estimating and commercial environment. You'll bring strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills, along with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • You'll have an interest in understanding construction drawings and specifications and be willing to learn how to interpret these with the support of the team. A logical and methodical approach will help you get to grips with take-offs and quantity reviews as your experience grows. Any exposure to site environments or the built environment-through placements, university projects or work experience-would be helpful but isn't essential. You'll be proficient in Microsoft Excel, and comfortable using Word, Outlook and PowerPoint. Awareness of programming or scheduling tools, such as Microsoft Project, would be beneficial. Strong communication, teamwork and organisational skills are important, along with an interest in utilities infrastructure and how networks are built and maintained. Most importantly, you'll be keen to learn and develop as part of a structured training and mentoring programme, with the confidence to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. A full, clean UK driving licence is also required
