Full Job Description

The Drama Department is a busy and significant part of the College. It comprises of the Acting Director of Co-curricular Drama, the Acting Head of Academic Drama, and two teachers, one of drama and the other of drama and dance. There is also a Drama Technician to support the technical and design aspects of the Department. Finally, there are 2 members of the school's AV technical team who provide support to the Drama Department for major events, notably musicals. The Drama Department produces 3 major productions per year, as well as numerous smaller scale performances including the practical exams for GCSE and A level Drama. We also run weekly drama and dance clubs, including theatre tech and design, as well as numerous theatrical workshops and trips for the pupils, such as a biennial trip to New York. LAMDA and dance lessons working towards exams are also popular amongst pupils. The Department has two fully equipped technical boxes, with the latest lighting, sound and multi-media equipment and resources and a growing collection of costumes, masks, puppets and props, with a wide selection of set items. The professional technicians regularly make bespoke items of set, liaising directly with students who act as directors in the designing process of staging and production. Co-curricular drama thrives at the College and three major productions span the year. A senior play, open to members of years 10-13, is performed in the Michaelmas term, followed by a musical in the Lent term and in the younger years, the Lower Fourth (Year 8) and M4th (Year 9) combine for a production performed in May. Additionally, the entire 3rd Form (Year 7) participate weekly in a Performing Arts carousel which combines music, drama, puppetry and dance, and culminates in a showcase in June. Smaller theatrical events, and activities, occur throughout the year, inspired by student or staff interests. We enter the National Theatre New Views playwriting competition each year and The Vickers' Project is an annual production which is entirely student-led. Members of the department are encouraged to explore and expand their theatrical passions through contributing to the productions. The department also offers Stage Tech Club and Costume Club for all year groups. The College is looking to recruit a graduate to support the Drama Department with the weekly programme of drama clubs, rehearsals and lessons, as well as trips, special events and productions. The responsibilities will be tailored to the skills and talents of the successful candidate. This role will suit a graduate who is looking to further their experience in the leadership and management of performing arts, notably whilst working with young people.
