Full Job Description
The post-holder will use most of his/her time in clinical activities directly relating to Dermatology. The total NHS work load is 0.1375WTE (5.5 hours) each week. The post-holder's duties will be primarily based at the Department of Dermatology, Churchill Hospital, Oxford, but their presence may be required in other parts of the Trust. Clinical care may involve collaboration with and/or supervision of an intermediate dermatology service. The post-holder will also be required to maintain excellent links with primary care at a personal and administrative level. New appointees will be offered mentoring within the Department of Dermatology., Junior medical support and training: The Dermatology service participates in the Oxford Training Rotation, which consists of specialist training posts shared between several hospitals (The Churchill & John Radcliffe Hospitals, Oxford, the Horton Hospital, Banbury and the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading). At any one time, we have at least 4-6 registrars based in Oxford, each of which spend approximately 24 months based in the department. Minor Operating Procedures: The clinical work plan (see below) will involve session in outpatient minor procedures to support the skin cancer service. There are 4 minor procedure rooms in Dermatology staffed with consultants, registrars, GPwSIs, nurses and healthcare professionals. Procedures range from simple shave c&cs to excision +/- grafts, booked to the ability of the operator. Ward rounds & in-patient cover: All in-patients are admitted under medical teams at the JR, Churchill, Horton sites and dermatology speciliast support is provided where needed.
- MRCP or MRCGP
- CCT in general practice or equivalent Desirable criteria
- Higher medical / scientific degree, General training & experience in dermatology to clinical assistant / GPwSI level or equivalent
- Competence in diagnosis & management of skin cancer including use of dermoscopy and surgical excisions
- Evidence of ability to make decisions at level of a GP partner and know when to seek clinical support, Excellent leadership skills. Evidence of ability to lead a clinical team in a GP practice.
- Effective administrative and time management skills.
- Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork
- Good spoken and written English. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience of formal and informal contributions to teaching and training
- Evidence of contribution to clinical governance, clinical risk management and clinical audit activities, Full GMC registration and licence to practise Desirable criteria
- Driving licence, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

The post is based at the Department of Dermatology, Churchill Hospital, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are pleased to be able to advertise for one part time GPwSI in dermatology with an interest in skin cancer for one year in the first instance to join our experienced skin cancer team in Oxford. This is a new post. Located within the Thames Valley, Oxford's skin cancer service is a recognised centre of excellence with one of the highest incidences of melanoma in the UK. We have state of the art surgical, diagnostic and laboratory facilities in a purpose built unit. We have excellent on-site links with plastic surgery and oncology with a centralised head and neck skin cancer service.
