The Genomic Practitioner will support the delivery of Clinical Genetics Services to patients and families, including the Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) service, across the East Anglian region. The Genomic Practitioner will manage tasks in a timely, professional manner.
Individuals who are creative, flexible and may be considering a career in genetic counselling, clinical research or project delivery may find this opportunity provides a key stepping stone to their career development. Applications from a range of backgrounds and experiences are welcomed.
Main duties of the job
Facilitate patient access to the Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) service, including documenting the record of discussion, arranging patient and relative blood samples and coordinating return of relevant forms.
Support the delivery of Clinical Genetics Services to patients and families, including reviewing and responding to requests for information from other genetics services, ensuring efficient recording of patients on National disease registries, and gathering patient family history information over the phone. This will also include supporting the continued mainstreaming of genomic medicine, and creating, developing, and cataloguing patient information resources.
Contribute to the completion of the 100,000 Genomes Project, manage requests for patient withdrawal, and re-consent patients who have turned 16 since joining the project.
You will have an interest in, and some prior knowledge of genomics but will have access to full training. You will be supported by clinical leadership within Clinical Genetics.
