Genomic Assistant - Whole Genome Sequencing

The Oxford Centre for Genomic Medicine is seeking a collegiate, organised and compassionate individual to join our Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) consenting service as a Genomic Assistant. The successful post holder will play a pivotal support role in booking in patient and their relatives who have a record of discussion conversation with a Genomic Practitioner. The post holder will be key in coordinating and collating samples, to ensure all samples needed (usually the patient plus two parents) are received and sent to the West Midlands Regional Genetics Laboratory. The post is ideal for an individual who wishes to develop towards becoming a Genomic Practitioner, Genomic Associate, and potentially more senior clinical positions in clinical genetics accordance with career progression regulations and guidance published on AGNC, GCRAB and NSHCS websites. However, this post does not lead to registration as a Genetic Counsellor with either the HCPC or AHCS. Full time- Monday to Friday Office hoursMain duties of the job

• Organising appointments for patients and their relatives, this will involve a sensitive conversation to help understand and remind them why their referring clinician has recommended this test, and why samples and records of discussion are needed from relatives.
• Help patients and their relatives organise their blood tests, and check that all the sample needed have been received. This involves managing spreadsheets and liaising with referring clincians.
• Work well with support as part of a multidisciplinary team, The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
  
  School leaver with Maths and English
• Evidence of fluency with MS Office Software, Email and Excel Spreadsheets

• Evidence of Growth Mindset
• Ability to manage time independently with support
• Evidence of professional communication ability in application as well as in paid or voluntary volunteer setting
• NHS, healthcare, caring or public facing experience paid or voluntary
Desirable criteria
• Relevant post school qualification, may include but does not require University Degree relevant to Clinical Genetics (psychology, biology, biomedical sciences etc)
