Reporting to the Directorate Manager, the post holder will be an integral member of the Care Group's Management Team and will be responsible for supporting the delivery of speciality specific performance and improvement plans and will therefore contribute to the Division's overall strategies and objectives. The General Service Manager will drive improvements in operational performance and planning within the service advising the Directorate Manager, Clinical Directors and Senior Nurse as necessary. The post holder will work closely with other Care group leads within the Division, colleagues across other divisions and external partners to enable the achievement of the Trust's objectives., Assist with the delivery of the service strategy, taking operational responsibility for delegated programmes of work. To lead and be accountable for the operational delivery of clinical services The service manager will lead plans, operational change and strategies within their service and provide and support across the care group. Support the work to drive the strategic direction and policy setting for the service within the context set by the Care Group leadership team, maintaining an essential communication link between the speciality/specialities and feeding into the Care Group leadership team. Operationalise robust business and workforce plans within the service, including systems, structures, and processes for managing clinical quality, risk, controls assurance and public involvement initiatives. Support the achievement of key performance indicators, access targets and contractual obligations including CQUINS and meeting CQC standards for an area identified by the Head of Operations. Lead for the service in creating an open, accountable culture where teams are confident and skilled in giving regular constructive feedback, where issues can be raised and solved openly, resulting in a productive solution focused working environment. Ensure team members contribute to the transformation of patient pathways, ensuring a high quality and efficient approach to service delivery. Embed plans to develop all managerial and administrative staff within the service ensuring a coaching style of management and the development of potential at every level is at the heart of everyday communications. Critically review plans that are in place for the development and review of the clinical service strategy for the speciality/specialities, including the monitoring of new opportunities, for delegated speciality/specialities, improvements that will enhance patient care, internally and also externally to the organisation. Develop and implement effective reporting arranegements within the service to accurately record and monitor performance against local and national targets and to pro-actively manage any variances.
- Masters degree level or equivalent, Management qualification or equivalent, Recent demonstrable experience of operational management, with clear evidence of responsibility for supporting operational delivery including clinical quality, people management, budget understanding and successful delivery of performance targets within strict financial controls.

- Key issues and pace of change facing the NHS nationally and locally, assess and describe impact on services Desirable criteria

- Knowledge of governance arrangements and standards in the NHS and the wider health and social care economy

- Developed communication skills, to include but not exclusively, mediation, negotiation, consultation, facilitation, presentation, training and coaching skills using well developed interpersonal skills to influence, inform, reconcile differences and resolve conflicts.
- Solve problems, using a solution focused approach demonstrating competent persuasive and influencing skills
- Analyse data and information, including preparing responses to issues often within tight timescales.
- Ability to support business planning processes on behalf of the speciality
- Coordinate speciality activity plans to meet challenging performance targets within tight financial controls
- Implement agreed policy on behalf of the speciality and ensure successful implementation
- IT literate and able to use standard office software and bespoke systems
- Cope with competing priorities and a demanding workload
- Work in an environment with frequent interruptions, and within stressful, unpredictable situations including responding to and solving urgent and emergency situations day to day. Desirable criteria

Broadgreen Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a General Service Manager within the Surgery Division to work alongside the Clinical and Nursing colleagues to deliver high quality, patient focused services. The Surgery Care Group includes the Broadgreen Elective Surgical Hub, centralised Pre-op services for LUHFT and Pain Management.
