General Porter

Movement of patients, escort of patients and visitors.

• Mortuary duties
+ Bodies to be transported to the mortuary as require
• In the absence of the mortuary assistant to:
+ Arrange access to the mortuary for appropriate persons as directed. + It may be necessary to assist Ambulance crews and/or Contracted Funeral Director during admission. Deliveries
• To provide a collection and delivery service as required for internal specimens, theatre/x-ray lists.
Equipment, Furniture and Fittings
• Patient related equipment to be clean and in good repair, defects to be reported to the Duty Team Leader.
• Furniture and other equipment to be moved around the hospitals when and where required
Medical Gas
• The delivery of empty/full cylinders as required. This will include manifold rooms and associated piped gas systems.
• To attend to or report any defects with the medical gas supply as required.
Emergency Procedures
• To attend the appropriate ward or department immediately with the appropriate equipment and assistance upon hearing the alarms for:
+ Cardiac arrest / Lucas Machine + Major incident, Hazchem and CBRN incidents + Traumas + Helicopter landing + Fire alarm + Patient Collapse

A Hospital Porter will:
