Full Job Description
We are seeking a General Manager to join our Women's & Children's Division and play a pivotal role in delivering outstanding healthcare services to our community. This is a critical senior leadership post within the Gynaecology Business Unit, providing operational leadership and strategic oversight to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and compassionate care. At a time of unprecedented demand on healthcare services, your leadership will be central to maintaining high standards, improving performance, and shaping future services. As General Manager, you will work as part of a triumvirate leadership team, alongside the Clinical Director and Matron, providing visible, cohesive, and effective leadership across the Business Unit. You will hold responsibility for the operational management, performance delivery, and resource utilisation of services, ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and financial targets. Working closely with the Divisional Director and Deputy Divisional Director, you will contribute to the strategic direction of the Division, developing and implementing robust strategic plans and performance frameworks., Provide strong, visible operational leadership across the Gynaecology Business Unit
- Work collaboratively within the triumvirate model to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care
- Lead service performance, ensuring delivery of activity, quality, and financial targets
- Develop and implement strategic and operational plans aligned to divisional and organisational priorities
- Oversee effective resource management to maximise efficiency and outcomes
- Drive service redesign and continuous improvement initiatives
- Engage and support clinical, operational, and multidisciplinary teams in delivering change
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing culture
We are looking for an inspiring and resilient leader who brings: - Extensive NHS operational management experience, ideally within complex service environments
- A strong track record of delivering performance and managing competing priorities
- Proven leadership and decision-making skills in high-pressure settings
- Experience of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary clinical teams
- The ability to lead service transformation and improvement programmes
- Strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills
- A passion for delivering outstanding, patient-centred care
At UHDB around 9,000 babies are born across our two sites each year at Royal Derby Hospital (RDH) and Queens Hospital Burton (QHB). We provide antenatal and postnatal care for 11,500 women each year and, at RDH, we offer an alongside birth centre. We support women through low and high-risk care pathways, and some specialty pathways like diabetes and cardiology.
