Full Job Description
This represents an opportunity for an enthusiastic doctor to join a dynamic clinical team in Gastroenterology. The appointee will join four gastroenterology registrars and 8 resident doctors in gastroenterology and acute medicine and work with 18 consultants, in a highly supportive environment with consultant presence on the unit between 09.00 to 13.00, which offers the ideal setting for a trainee to develop further the required skills of a gastroenterology registrar.
The majority of the time will be spent on normal working days (8.30am-5pm) on Allingham ward (the home Gastroenterology ward) and relevant outlying wards, including assessment and review of Gastroenterology IP referrals in other areas of the Trust, e.g. AMU.
There will be the opportunity to develop other areas of interest, and this may include taking part in specialty Gastroenterology/Hepatology/Nutrition clinics, endoscopy, and involvement in teaching of under- and post-graduate students or participation in service improvement projects., Focusing, where possible, on outcomes, qualitative as well as quantitative. · To ensure confidentiality at all times, only releasing confidential information obtained during the course of employment to those acting in an official capacity in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act and its amendments

· To ensure skills are up-to-date and relevant to the role, to follow relevant Trust policies and professional codes and to maintain registration where this is a requirement of the role

· To undertake such duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and the needs of the service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The appointees will:
· Develop clinical knowledge and skills in general gastroenterology and hepatology
· Further develop clinical skills in managing the acutely ill patient
· Develop leadership skills, through managing a team of junior doctors on the gastroenterology and hepatology ward
· Gain a basic introduction to endoscopy
· Undertake an audit project in gastroenterology or hepatology
