Functional Skills Tutor

NHS Choices College is a supported internship programme that aims to support young adults with learning difficulties, disabilities, or autism to become employment ready.

You will work closely with the Education Quality Assurance Manager in delivering the English and maths educational outcomes which are a condition of our funding. You will play a key role in ensuring the programme meets the educational needs of the learners and our regulatory bodies.

Please note - this vacancy will be based in the North East of England. A driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.

For this role, we offer career pathways to education quality assurance, supported internship management. In addition, we offer ongoing training and development in teaching, assessment, quality assurance, autism, Prevent and safeguarding., The Functional Skills Tutor's main duties will include delivery of bespoke maths and English curriculum to interns in a classroom setting. Preparing and assessing each interns progress by maintaining detailed weekly records as proscribed by the Education and Quality Assurance Manager.

You will be Educated to degree level or equivalent and hold a recognised post 16/ adult teaching qualification minimum Level 3 (AET/PTTLS/PGCE/) and have level 3 qualifications in English and maths or the equivalent.

You will be a confident communicator with learners who have a range of learning disabilities. You will have recent extensive experience of working with learners who have additional educational needs.

You will work on differentiated lessons with groups of students to support the development of social and emotional skills of the students.Whilst improving their English and maths from their starting point.

You will have strong communication skills and the ability to produce educational reports for each learner. Training in Systematic Instruction methodologies would be helpful.

A passion for supporting students with SEN to meet their full potential is essential for this role.
