Full Job Description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Freelance Quantity Surveyor to take full commercial responsibility for a defined section of a major water sector project currently progressing from ECI through outline and into detailed design. This is a key role where you will influence commercial outcomes from an early stage, ensuring robust cost control, risk management, and reporting as the project scope develops. You will manage the full subcontract and commercial lifecycle, supporting delivery within a complex, multi-discipline environment., Take full commercial accountability for a defined section of the works
Lead procurement activities including tendering, evaluation, and subcontract award
Administer subcontract accounts including valuations, variations, and final accounts
Maintain effective commercial and cost control throughout design and delivery phases
Manage change, risk, and opportunity within your section of the project
Support key commercial reporting including:
Cashflow forecasting
Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR)
Quarterly forecasting
Provide commercial input during design development to drive cost certainty and reduce risk
Collaborate closely with delivery teams across multiple disciplines
Ensure compliance with contract requirements and governance processes

Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or similar construction-related discipline
Proven experience in a commercial role with a main contractor
Experience working across different forms of contract
Strong background in cost control, subcontract management, and reporting
Experience working on infrastructure, civils, or water sector projects (desirable)
Full UK driving licence
