Full Job Description

The Fracture Liaison Nurse is responsible for coordinating the assessment, investigation, and management of patients aged 50 and over who have sustained a fragility fracture, with the aim of preventing future fractures. The role involves working both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure timely identification, treatment, education, and follow-up of patients at risk of osteoporosis. The post holder will contribute to service delivery, quality improvement, and national reporting requirements, while maintaining high standards of clinical care and data management. The role also requires strong IT proficiency, including the use of electronic patient records, databases, and Microsoft Office applications--particularly Excel--for data tracking, audit, and reporting purposes., Clinical Responsibilities

  • Identify patients with fragility fractures across inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, emergency departments, and fracture clinics
  • Conduct comprehensive osteoporosis and falls risk assessments
  • Arrange and interpret relevant investigations (e.g. DXA scans, blood tests) in line with local and national guidelines
  • Initiate or recommend appropriate osteoporosis treatments under Patient Group Directions (PGDs) or agreed protocols
  • Provide patient-centred education on bone health, medication adherence, lifestyle modification, and fracture preventio
  • Service Development and Data Management
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and patient records using electronic systems
  • Use IT systems and Microsoft Excel to manage patient databases, track outcomes, and support reporting requirements
  • Contribute to audit, quality improvement initiatives, and national data submissions (e.g. FLS-DB

    Demonstrate strong clinical reasoning and decision-making skills
  • Analyse and interpret clinical data, investigations, and risk assessment tools
  • Exhibit excellent organisational and prioritisation skills to manage a varied caseload
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in documentation and data entry, including use of Excel and digital systems
  • Work autonomously while recognising limitations and escalating concerns appropriately
  • Apply problem-solving skills to manage complex clinical scenarios and service challenge
