Full Job Description

The post offers exposure across medical services, enabling the successful candidate to build a strong foundation in the assessment, management and ongoing care of patients. The postholder will be supported by experienced consultants and wider multidisciplinary teams and will have access to educational supervision, teaching and professional development opportunities throughout the placement., The Trust Grade Foundation Year 1 Doctor will undertake a structured 12-month fixed-term programme, rotating across three clinical specialties during the appointment. The post is designed to provide broad-based clinical experience and professional development within a supervised healthcare environment. Whilst this post is not recognised as an approved Foundation Training Programme post and does not confer Foundation competency sign-off, the post holder will be supported by designated Clinical and Educational Supervisors and encouraged to maintain evidence of learning and development through the NHS ePortfolio., Provide safe, effective and compassionate patient care under appropriate supervision.

  • Undertake the assessment, investigation and management of patients within their level of competence.
  • Take comprehensive patient histories and perform clinical examinations.
  • Formulate differential diagnoses and contribute to management plans.
  • Prescribe medications safely and in accordance with Trust policies and national guidance.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive patient records.
  • Prioritise and manage clinical workload effectively whilst responding to changing service demands.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, relatives, carers and multidisciplinary colleagues.
  • Participate in ward rounds, outpatient clinics, multidisciplinary team meetings and specialty-specific activities as required.
  • Escalate concerns appropriately and seek senior advice when required.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, patient safety, audit and quality improvement activities.
  • Utilise evidence-based practice, local guidelines and national standards to support high-quality patient care.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity and adherence to Good Medical Practice at all times.
  • Recognise and appropriately manage ethical, legal and safeguarding issues encountered in clinical practice.
  • Participate in teaching and educational activities within the departments to which they are assigned.
  • Support patient education and shared decision-making where appropriate.
  • Attend mandatory training and, where available, essential courses such as ALERT and Advanced Life Support (ALS).
  • Engage in continuing professional development and maintain a commitment to lifelong learning.
  • Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, allied health professional and administrative colleagues to deliver high-quality services.

    This role is ideally suited to doctors seeking Foundation Year 1 equivalent experience within a large teaching hospital whilst contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care across a range of surgical specialties.,
  • Must have achieved a primary medical qualification recognised by the General Medical Council. Hold full GMC registration and a licence to practice
  • Fit to practice medicine safely in accordance with GMC's Good Medical Practice domains: knowledge, skills and performance, safety and quality, communication, partnership and teamwork, maintaining trust
  • Able to demonstrate evidence of maintaining clinical knowledge and skills

    Based at the Aintree or Royal Liverpool, Liverpool, this post provides an excellent opportunity for a doctor to gain broad Foundation Year 1 level experience within a supportive teaching environment. The successful candidate will rotate through a range of surgical specialties over the 12-month period, developing core clinical, decision-making and multidisciplinary team-working skills aligned to the Foundation Programme curriculum., NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group (UHL Group) was formed on 1 November 2024, born from a shared aim to improve the care we provide our communities.
