Full Job Description

We are currently seeking to appoint an experienced finance professional to join our Finance team as a Senior Finance Support Officer. You will work alongside the Senior Accountants/Finance Business Partners and Principal Accountants to provide financial support and advice to heads of service, budget holders, elected members, and other stakeholders across our services. As the Senior Finance Support Officer, you will work with the Business Support Officers providing guidance and support. You will ensure effective resource management, accountability, control, and compliance with internal policies and procedures and statutory obligations. Robust financial advice, guidance and support plays an important part in enabling the Council to deliver a consistently high standard of services to local communities. You will be involved with the preparation of budgets, provision of financial monitoring during the year and the preparation of financial year-end accounts along with completion of grant claims. Wyre Forest District Council has a strong track record of financial management and timely completion and publication of statutory Statement of Accounts. Local government reorganisation is being driven forward by central government, this means that the council will remain sovereign until at least 1 April 2028 after which a new unitary authority will deliver services in the district. This means an exciting time with lots of opportunities to help shape the outlook for local government in the area.

Flexibility is key, as you will work in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines and priorities. Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, and experience with finance systems are essential.

Whatever your role within Wyre Forest District Council, every day you will be working to benefit people living in the area. The District is a mix of urban rural, market and riverside town communities covering 195 square kilometres. The three main towns of Kidderminster, Bewdley and Stourport-on-Severn and several surrounding villages including Arley, Rock, Chaddesley Corbett and Wolverley make up the district. Over 100,000 people live here and you can help shape our district's future as part of our circa 350 strong workforce that strives to make a difference in making sure the services we offer meet the aspirations and needs of our local community., To find out more about Wyre Forest District Council, or the area we serve please visit our website at www.wyreforestdc.gov.uk, 'Like' us on Facebook www.facebook.com/WyreForest/ or follow us on Twitter @WyreForestDC.
