Full Job Description

Are you a finance professional looking for a development opportunity that offers broad exposure across a wide range of local government finance activities? Bassetlaw District Council is offering an exciting opportunity for a Finance Manager to support the delivery of a comprehensive, high-quality finance service during an important period for local government. This opportunity is open to colleagues from Councils who are part of our Nottinghamshire Local Government Reorganisation programme. Working in a district council environment provides a unique opportunity to gain experience across a broad range of finance responsibilities. The successful applicant will support both strategic and operational finance activity, gaining valuable insight into the breadth and complexity of financial management in a district setting. The role will support the Head of Finance and Property with the day-to-day management of the finance service, including financial management, reporting, budget preparation, annual closedown and the production of accounting statements. The role will also provide financial advice and support to a range of Council services, elected Members and external stakeholders, including external auditors. This would be an excellent opportunity for a CCAB/CIMA qualified finance professional, or someone with strong relevant local government finance experience, who is looking to broaden their skills, gain experience in a different local authority setting and contribute to wider public sector collaboration during LGR. What the opportunity offers

  • Gain hands-on experience across a varied district council finance function.
  • Contribute to annual budget preparation, financial reporting and closedown activity.
  • Work with a range of Council services, Members and external stakeholders.
  • Develop broader local government finance knowledge during a significant period of change.
  • Build professional networks across Councils involved in the LGR programme.
  • Support collaboration and shared learning across the wider local government sector.
  • Please note: Any successful internal candidate may be considered for appointment on a secondment basis, subject to the relevant arrangements being agreed
