Full Job Description
The University of Oxford is a stimulating work environment which enjoys an international reputation as a world-class centre of excellence. Our research plays a key role in tackling many global challenges, from reducing our carbon emissions to developing vaccines during a pandemic. An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly organised and numerate Finance and Grants Assistant to join the small finance and research grants teams providing financial management services to the Department of Experimental Psychology. The position is fixed term (maternity leave cover) from 1 July 2025 until 31 January 2026 or the actual return of the substantive post holder, or the resignation of the substantive post holder and employment of a new post holder, whichever is the earliest. It is full-time although part-time (minimum of 30 hours per week) would be considered. Currently located in the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, we will be moving to the new, purpose-built Life and Mind Building a multidisciplinary research and teaching facility due to open in the summer 2025.
The successful candidate will be educated to at least GCSE or equivalent, with a financial qualification or experience in a finance administrator or similar role. They will also have experience of working with grants and general ledger. Excellent communication and IT skills, accuracy, and attention to detail are essential requirements as well as a tactful and confidential approach. Experience of R12 Oracle Financials, knowledge of University financial procedures and experience of working in an academic or research environment would be an advantage.
As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees' wellbeing and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer including:
- An excellent contributory pension scheme
- 38 days annual leave
- A comprehensive range of childcare services
- Family leave schemes
- Cycle loan scheme
- Discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans
- Membership to a variety of social and sports clubs
