Full Job Description

This is a pivotal role within the Finance Directorate, providing expert leadership across all aspects of NHS income, including commissioner contracts, provider-to-provider agreements and specialised commissioning. You will be the Trust's technical authority on the NHS Payment Scheme, tariff and counting and coding rules, ensuring income is accurately planned, validated, reported and maximised., You will:

  • Provide strategic leadership for all income streams, including commissioner contracts, provider-to-provider agreements and specialised commissioning
  • Lead the Trust's annual income planning process and support long-term financial modelling
  • Oversee the full monthly income assurance cycle, including validation, reconciliation and reporting
  • Lead and develop the Income Team, setting high standards of performance, assurance and customer service
  • Act as a senior adviser to the Deputy Director of Finance, CFO and executive colleagues on income risks, opportunities and system changes
  • Represent the Trust in negotiations and discussions with ICBs, NHS England, DHSC and external providers, The Finance Business Partner - Income is a senior role within the Finance Directorate, responsible for leading all aspects of the Trust's income, including commissioner contracts, provider-to-provider agreements and specialised commissioning arrangements. As the Trust's expert on the NHS Payment Scheme, tariff and counting & coding rules, the post holder ensures income is accurately planned, validated, reported and protected.
  • Working closely with clinical divisions, operational teams, coding and analytics colleagues, the role leads the income assurance cycle, supports annual contract negotiations, and provides clear advice to the Deputy Director of Finance and senior leaders on income risks and opportunities. The post holder manages the Income Team and represents the Trust in discussions with the ICB, NHS England and external providers. This role is essential to maintaining the integrity of the Trust's financial position and supporting delivery of high-quality, sustainable patient care.

    We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Finance Business Partner (Income) to lead and protect the Trust's income position at a senior strategic level.,
  • Fully Qualified Accountant (CCAB or other equivalent)
  • Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of post-graduate qualification or further professional learning
  • Registered and Active Continued Professional Development, Over ten years' experience working in a finance department of a large organisation, preferably within the NHS.
  • Substantial experience of advising finance and non-finance managers to a senior level on complex financial information
  • Expert knowledge on NHS Payment Scheme rules, counting & coding, national tariff, local payment approaches, blended payment models, specialised commissioning arrangements, and cross-provider commercial agreements
  • Significant and substantial experience of setting budgets and of financial forecasting
  • Desirable criteria
  • In depth expert knowledge of contracting and commissioning systems in an NHS acute provider organisation
  • Expert knowledge of NHS financial information systems and providing advice on their development
  • Knowledge of service line reporting, Patient Level Costing and NHS Reference Costs
  • Significant and substantial experience of working in a financial management position post qualification in the NHS
