Full Job Description

The FE Lecturer in Health and Social Care plays a vital role in preparing learners for careers within the health, care, and community sectors. Through high-quality teaching, professional role modelling, and strong curriculum expertise, the role equips students with the knowledge, skills, behaviours, and professional values required to progress into further study or employment in areas such as nursing, midwifery, social work, allied health professions, mental health support, and adult care. The role combines effective classroom practice with pastoral support, enabling learners to develop both academic understanding and the personal qualities essential for working with individuals and communities. The FE Lecturer in Health and Social Care supports students to understand real-world professional standards, ethical practice, safeguarding responsibilities, and person-centred care, while promoting inclusivity, empathy, and resilience. Through close collaboration with colleagues and ongoing engagement with sector expectations, the role ensures learners are well prepared to make confident and informed progression choices. Please note this is a part time role of 0.8FTE.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to learner-centred education and a clear understanding of the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and learning needs of post-16 students. You will model the compassionate, ethical, and professional behaviours expected within the health and social care sector, acting as a positive role model for learners aspiring to work in caring professions. You will show a genuine interest in the wellbeing, development, and success of learners, with the ability to explain complex concepts in clear, accessible ways. You will be an effective communicator who listens actively and non-judgementally, and who is confident in facilitating discussions around sensitive or emotionally challenging topics within the curriculum, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. You will hold, or be working towards, a PGCE or equivalent qualification, alongside a relevant degree or professional qualification within the subject area or sector. You will also hold Level 2 qualifications in English and maths (GCSE A

  • -C / 4-9 or Functional Skills) or demonstrate a willingness to achieve these within an agreed timescale.
  • You will also be able to provide demonstrable evidence of engaging and motivating learners, supporting high-quality learning outcomes, and will have experience of delivering teaching or training programmes to post-16 learners; specifically on the T level Health and BTEC Level 2 & Level 3 Health and Social Care courses. You will be able to evidence delivery of high-quality provision aligned with national standards and benchmarks, supported by detailed knowledge of appropriate qualifications associated with the health and social care subject area.
