Full Job Description
As a Family Liaison Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting students and their families by building positive, trusting relationships and removing barriers to engagement with education. Working in a non-judgemental, supportive and solution-focused way, you will empower parents and carers to access the right support and make the most of the opportunities available to their child. You will be a calm, approachable presence within the school, working closely with pastoral, behaviour and safeguarding teams to ensure families feel listened to, informed and supported in line with the school's ethos and values. If you're passionate about supporting families, building trust and making a genuine difference to young people's lives, this could be the role for you.,
- Act as the main point of contact for families requiring additional support, building strong, trusting relationships that encourage positive engagement with the school. This includes maintaining regular communication, carrying out home visits where appropriate, and providing early engagement opportunities for families prior to a child joining the school.
- Coordinate and contribute to multi-agency support by completing referrals, signposting families to external services, liaising professionally with partner agencies, and attending meetings to support joined-up planning and positive outcomes for pupils and families.
- Play a key role in safeguarding and pastoral support across the school, acting as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, maintaining accurate and confidential records, and ensuring all case notes and documentation meet safeguarding and policy requirements.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, providing consistent, individualised support that promotes inclusion, independence, self-esteem and engagement in learning. This includes contributing to Individual Education Plans and Behaviour Plans, providing feedback on progress, and using specialist skills or training to meet individual needs.
- Support wider operational and wellbeing needs, including assisting with medication administration, supporting pupil transport arrangements, and maintaining high standards of professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at minimum Level 4 (Grade C) - Full UK driving licence and your own vehicle
- Experience working in a similar role with families, children or vulnerable young people within an education, health, care or community setting.
- Compassionate and empathetic communicator with a genuine commitment to supporting families through challenging circumstances
- Strong interpersonal and listening skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism
- Confident in managing complex caseloads, prioritising effectively, and maintaining accurate records
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and the ability to respond appropriately to concerns
- Able to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including schools, social services, and community organisations
- Resilient and adaptable, with the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring all families feel respected and supported
- Proactive in identifying needs and signposting families to relevant support services
Reddish Hall School is an independent specialist day school in Stockport for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, often alongside diagnoses such as autism, ADHD and dyslexia. Many of our pupils are academically able but have experienced significant barriers to education because of complex mental-health needs, which may include anxiety, suicidal ideation, self-harm and disordered eating. We offer a nurturing and highly individualised education without compromising on academic ambition. Small classes, skilled teaching and carefully tailored support enable pupils to re-engage with learning and work towards a broad range of meaningful qualifications and future pathways. Academic study is complemented by vocational opportunities and a strong focus on emotional wellbeing, independence and personal development. Reddish Hall is not a traditional SEMH provision. It is a calm, aspirational learning community in which pupils are understood as individuals and supported to feel safe, rebuild confidence and recognise their own potential. Through specialist support and close partnerships with families and other professionals, we help every pupil prepare for a positive and fulfilling life beyond school. Acorn Education offers rewarding careers and meaningful challenges while making a real difference in young people's lives. As a leading UK provider of specialist education for children and young people with special educational needs, and part of Outcomes First Group, we deliver innovative, evidence-based approaches that support measurable progress and lasting impact.
