Introduction

Support the Estates & Facilities team in maintaining a safe, well-maintained and effective environment.The postholder will undertake practical facilities and maintenance activities. Develop practical skills, including planned and preventative maintenance, basic repairs, building and equipment checks, site upkeep, and many more.

What You'll Do

  • Complete the relevant apprenticeship programme and associated learning requirements.
  • Attend training, study and assessment activities as required.
  • Apply learning from the apprenticeship programme to practical work within Prospect Hospice.
  • Maintain appropriate records of learning and development.
  • Take responsibility for progressing towards the required apprenticeship standards and qualifications.
  • Participate actively in supervision, feedback and development discussions.
  • Develop an increasing level of independence and responsibility as skills and experience develop. 

Planned and Preventative Maintenance

  • Support the Facilities Manager and Facilities Technician in delivering the planned preventative maintenance programme.
  • Assist with routine inspections, checks and maintenance activities across the hospice and retail sites.
  • Undertake tasks appropriate to the apprentice's level of training, competence and experience.
  • Assist with the identification and reporting of defects, faults and emerging maintenance issues.
  • Support the maintenance of accurate records of completed work.
  • Learn how buildings, equipment and facilities are maintained and managed effectively.

Reactive Maintenance and Repairs

  • Assist with responding to day-to-day maintenance requests and facilities issues.
  • Undertake basic repairs and maintenance tasks where appropriately trained and authorised.
  • Report faults and defects that cannot safely or appropriately be resolved.
  • Assist the Facilities Technician and Facilities Manager with more complex maintenance activities.
  • Help to ensure that facilities-related issues are dealt with promptly and effectively.
  • Maintain a professional and helpful approach when working in areas used by patients, families, staff, volunteers and visitors.

General Facilities Support

  • Support the general upkeep and presentation of buildings, facilities and external areas.
  • Assist with basic tasks relating to furniture, fixtures, fittings and equipment.
  • Support the movement, installation or removal of equipment and other items where appropriate.
  • Assist with deliveries, storage and the organisation of facilities-related materials.
  • Support seasonal and ad hoc facilities activities as required.
  • Assist with preparing areas for events, activities or operational requirements where appropriate.

Working Arrangements

Working Week: Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm or 9.00am to 5.00pm. Release time included in the above. Full time, 52 weeks per year.

Expected Duration: 2 Years
