Full Job Description

Due to the impending retirement of the current post holder, we are looking for an analytical, proactive and highly motivated individual to join the commissioning finance team as an External Activity Analyst. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of healthcare, data analysis, commissioning and patient services.

Every year significant numbers of patients receive treatment outside of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. As our External Activity Analyst, you will play a vital role in ensuring these referrals are managed appropriately, fairly and in line with Health Board policy.

You will investigate and analyse complex patient activity data, work closely with clinicians, GP practices and NHS providers across Wales and England, and help shape decisions that directly affect patient pathways and the effective use of NHS funding.

Main duties of the job

The role will cover

Managing the Health Board's Out of Area Referral process which will involve developing strong relationships with stakeholders across Wales and England.

Working with clinicians, GPs and healthcare providers to ensure referrals are managed effectively.

Analysing healthcare datasets to identify trends, anomalies and opportunities for savings.

Validating activity and challenging inaccurate charges from external providers.

The role is varied and a unique opportunity due to its remit within the Commissioning Finance team. One day you could be supporting a review panel for a complex patient referral, the next you could be challenging provider data worth thousands of pounds, identifying opportunities to improve commissioning arrangements, or producing insight for senior management teams.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
