Full Job Description

Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG
This position is open to INTERNAL CANDIDATES ONLY.
About the role
The Faculty of History at the University of Oxford is seeking an organised, enthusiastic Examinations Officer to join its friendly Academic Office team. This is an opportunity to play a central role in ensuring the smooth, accurate and timely administration of undergraduate examinations and written examinations for relevant postgraduate programmes.
Working closely with academic colleagues, examiners and administrative staff, you will coordinate examination arrangements, oversee the preparation and submission of examination papers, maintain records, process marks and support meetings of Boards of Examiners. You will communicate with students and staff, respond to enquiries, prepare documentation and help improve administrative procedures. The role requires careful planning, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing deadlines throughout the academic year.
The post is based at the Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities in Oxford. It is a permanent, full-time appointment of 36.5 hours per week. You will join a collaborative team supporting the teaching and assessment activities of a leading History faculty.

You will bring excellent organisational and communication skills, strong attention to detail and a flexible, proactive approach. You should be comfortable managing your own workload, prioritising urgent tasks and maintaining accuracy under pressure. A commitment to excellent customer service and the ability to work constructively as part of a team are essential.
You will communicate confidently and appropriately with students, academics and colleagues at all levels, and handle confidential information with tact and discretion. Strong literacy, numeracy and digital skills are important, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook. You should also be willing to learn specialist systems and suggest practical improvements to existing processes.
Experience in higher education administration or supervising staff would be welcome, but is not essential. We encourage applications from people who can demonstrate relevant skills and experience gained in different settings.
