Full Job Description
You'll work mainly on the Community Water Enterprises (CWE) project. CWEs put communities at the heart of caring for nature-based solutions, including rain gardens and wetlands, which reduce flood risk, ease pressure on sewers and protect rivers. The programme is led by Wessex Water and funded through Ofwat's Water Breakthrough Challenge. WRT leads the Southwest pilot, one of two nationally.
You'll be central to making the pilot work on the ground, working face-to-face with local communities.
You will:
-Deliver in-person workshops and events for people of all backgrounds
-Help set up community crews and recruit, train and support volunteers
-Inspire people to take further action for rivers through pledging, volunteering and donating
-Build partner relationships and represent the Trust at events
-Gather evidence of social and environmental impact for monitoring and funder reporting
You'll have:
-Experience delivering community engagement events and working with volunteers or community groups
-Skills in producing engagement materials
-Fieldwork and data analysis experience
-Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
-Good organisational and IT skills, including Microsoft Office 365
-A degree or equivalent experience in environmental science, ecology, geography, social science, community development or similar
-An understanding of data protection
Knowledge of nature-based solutions or Southwest rivers, and experience of water quality monitoring or fundraising, would be an advantage.
Westcountry Rivers Trust was founded in 1994 to restore West Country rivers. Our team of around 75 works with landowners, farmers, communities, businesses and water companies to protect rivers, estuaries and coasts for people, wildlife and the local economy. We use a science-led, whole-catchment approach.
