Estates Officer

Please note we don't have a fixed closing date but instead will close the role when we have sufficient applicants to interview, so apply soon to not miss out!, London South East Colleges is looking for an experienced and proactive Estates Officer to join our Estates team, based at our Orpington campus.

You will play a key role in maintaining a safe, secure, compliant and welcoming environment for our learners, staff and visitors.

Working as part of the Estates team, you will undertake planned and reactive maintenance, PPM, building and plant inspections and statutory compliance checks. You will respond to estates emergencies, manage work through our Service Desk/CAFM system and help ensure issues are resolved safely and effectively.

You will also coordinate and monitor contractors, including access, inductions, RAMS and permits to work, and ensure work is completed safely and to the required standard.

This is a hands-on role with real responsibility. You will be expected to take ownership of your workload, identify and address risks and defects proactively and, when required, provide day-to-day operational coordination of Estates activities in the absence of the Estates Operations Manager.

We are looking for someone with practical estates, facilities or building maintenance experience, with knowledge of building fabric and basic mechanical and electrical systems. Practical skills in decorating, carpentry and plumbing repairs and maintenance are important, along with experience or knowledge of plant room equipment.

Experience of PPM, statutory compliance, contractor supervision and CAFM/service desk systems would be advantageous, together with good IT skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.

You will be self-motivated, practical and solutions-focused, with good communication and customer service skills. You will be comfortable working independently and as part of a team and able to respond calmly and effectively to operational incidents and emergencies.

A Health and Safety qualification at Level 2 or above, or willingness to work towards one, is required. You must also be flexible to work varying shift patterns and participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota.

Due to the emergency call-out responsibilities associated with this role, the post holder must live within a reasonable travelling distance of the Orpington Campus to enable a timely response to out-of-hours emergencies when required.

A full UK driving licence (Category B) is required.
