Working towards Sunderland City Plan 2035, we are committed to keeping our city clean and green around the clock. As an Environmental Services Technician, within our dedicated Local Services team, you can contribute to improving environmental standards within Sunderland.
Working within Sunderland's exciting Resorts area, you will play a key role in maintaining the city's iconic seafront and surrounding public spaces. This high-profile environment provides the opportunity to take pride in supporting an area that showcases Sunderland at its very best.
Applicants will enjoy working outdoors, being active and dealing with people. You will work within a team or independently, to provide exceptional services to our residents and visitors, by completing grounds maintenance and street cleansing tasks across the city.
The job can be physically demanding, as you carry out a range of duties, including seasonal work tasks, outdoors, and in all weather conditions. You will complete a range of routine operational tasks requiring the skilled operation of vehicles, power tools or equipment in accordance with work practices to support the provision of front-line services which is aligned to customer need. You will be responsible for undertaking checks to ensure vehicles, tools or equipment are safe to use and properly adjusted prior to operation. Full PPE and training will be provided.
Applicants are required to have a full UK driving licence with a minimum category C1+E with Certificate of Professional Competency for drivers and digital tachograph card and be capable of operating vehicles and a variety of power tools and technical equipment, along with carrying out routine maintenance under direction. Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions, policies, procedures and legislation to carry out duties compliantly. As the service covers all of Sunderland, you may be required to work from any of the three Council depots in Hendon, Houghton Le Spring or Washington.

Applicants should be prepared to work any day of the week (Monday - Sunday) and have the flexibility to respond if called upon at short notice. You may also be required to work Bank/Public holidays, as well as between Christmas and New Year when required by the service and appropriate to the post.
