Full Job Description

  • Inspect lower risk food establishments in the Council's area and ensure they are safely and hygienically operated, and that they produce food that is fit for human consumption.
  • Investigate complaints about the safety of food, follow up on notifications of food-related disease, carry out sampling and, with the guidance of senior officers or the team leader, take the most appropriate course of action in accordance with the Council's policies and procedures.
  • Receive and respond to applications i.e. food premises registration, skin piercing, permits to trade or other related matters.
  • Assessment of applications providing formal responses including relevant comments to ensure compliance with the Food Safety Regulations, Health & Safety at Work etc Act, Miscellaneous Provisions Act and all associated regulations and codes of practice.
  • Undertake compliance interventions as necessary.

    We are looking for an enthusiastic team player with a genuine interest in protecting and maintaining the health of the community through the promotion and enforcement of food and occupational safety and health., NVQ level 5, or equivalent in a relevant subject or relevant work experience.
  • 2 years' experience in a relevant subject area or demonstrable experience in an equivalent service delivery role.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with a broad cross-section of people across the organisation and external partners.
  • Ability to adapt to new areas of work and rapidly gain knowledge and understanding of new subject areas or systems.
  • Ability to understand and interpret legislation.
  • High level of IT skills, and ability learn to use of IT systems and applications. Especially Microsoft office products and web applications. Back database systems.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, ability to prioritise work, solve problems both within a team and as an individual to effectively manage a varied workload.
  • Ability to achieve own targets, set and support team members to achieve their targets.
  • Effective influencing, negotiating and advocacy skills.
  • Demonstrable proportionate, and pragmatic problem-solving skills and ability.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
  • Ability to provide support to colleagues who deal with complex and challenging situations.
  • Good communication skills both verbally and in writing including the ability to produce written documents and presentations to a high standard to a range of audiences.
