Full Job Description

This role is responsible for supporting and continuously improving environmental performance and compliance across the Port Talbot site. The position involves monitoring environmental performance, ensuring adherence to legal and company standards, driving improvement initiatives, supporting audits and inspections, investigating incidents, and working collaboratively with stakeholders to promote effective environmental management and sustainable operational practices. What you will do:

  • Monitoring, recording and analyzing environmental data to assess compliance with legal requirements and annual plans. and regularly providing reports to internal and external stakeholders, including environment regulators, to identify areas of concern and opportunities for improvement.
  • Contributing to the development of the TSUK long term roadmap and individual year annual plans for environment.
  • Benchmarking the current processes at Port Talbot and keeping up to date with technical & legislative developments related to the environmental issues at the site.
  • Developing and implementing annual plan improvements. Prioritising spends on remedial actions and improvement activities related to environmental protection.
  • Investigating environmental complaints and environmental incidents at Port Talbot, including providing technical support to Port Talbot works areas in their response to environmental incidents, including identifying root cause, developing solutions to prevent recurrence and facilitating learning from events.
  • Undertaking regular audits within the Port Talbot works areas, providing the necessary support and guidance to ensure identified issues are resolved within a reasonable time.
  • Working collaboratively with other members of the TSUK Environment Team and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Supporting the management of Service Level Agreements (SLA) with other departments such as Process Control.
  • Preparing for and hosting all internal and external environmental inspections/audits ensuring a professional and robust interface with all parties
  • Ensuring training actions are planned and executed to enable all stakeholders to be capable of competently playing their part in the management system.
  • Overseeing compliance of Port Talbot site with the specific legal requirements, annual plans and TSUK standards relating to all environmental topics
  • Facilitating all Port Talbot site environmental meetings
  • As Environment Manager you will play a pivotal role in driving support and contribute to the Tata Steel UK at the Port Talbot site, meeting the requirements of company's environmental policy, complying with permit conditions and relevant environmental legislation and facilitating continuous environmental improvement, in a technically robust and cost-effective manner You will be responsible for delivering and improving environmental processes, reporting, compliance and cost savings through activities such as benchmarking and projects. Providing technical knowledge and expertise on environmental related matters.

  • Education to Degree Level or equivalent is required
  • IEMA Certificate in Environment Management is preferred
  • Nebosh Certificate in Environmental Management is desirable
  • Experience in the operation of Environment Management Systems
  • Experience of working in or with manufacturing processes and the management of associated environmental permitting is preferred
  • Knowledge of steel-sector processes and their environmental effects is desirable
  • Required to have excellent interpersonal skills including team and group communications
  • Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Experience in the operation of Environment Management Systems and the delivery of processes to comply with ISO 14001 requirements
  • Experience of working in or with manufacturing processes and the management of associated environmental permitting is preferred
  • Knowledge of steel-sector processes and their environmental effects is desirable
  • Proven analytical skills with an ability to apply specific technical knowledge to complex interrelated operations are required
