Full Job Description

As a teacher of Media Studies, you will work alongside the Head of Creative, Film and Media to deliver a stimulating curriculum to students at KS5., St Thomas More Catholic School is totally committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its children and young people. All its staff and volunteers are expected to share in this commitment and to make every reasonable endeavour to ensure that its recruitment and selection standards are met. A copy of our Child Protection Policy is available on the school website.

An enhanced DBS check will be undertaken for the successful applicant, and all applicants must be able to provide documentation to prove their right to work in the UK.

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Teacher of English at KS3 and 4 and Media Studies at KS5. As a teacher of English, you will be joining an experienced group of qualified practitioners who very much work as a team. Staff are confident in sharing good practice in a collaborative and cohesive way and the department benefits from the expertise of several trained AQA markers. Practitioners utilise facilitative methods of teaching with interactive screens and visualisers in every classroom., Our school is a very special and unique place. Students are friendly, welcoming, enthusiastic and eager to learn. Staff are caring, supportive and dedicated to finding the true potential in every one of our students. If you have a passion for English and Media and a commitment to ensuring every student achieves their very best, we want to hear from you!

In return our school can offer you a welcoming and inclusive environment, with a culture of openness and transparency. We value highly the wellbeing of all our staff and offer a number of benefits to support this.

With the wellbeing of our colleagues at the centre of our thinking, our Governing Body has given their support to an innovative approach to the structure of the working week. As of September 2026, all teaching colleagues, at all levels, will be afforded the opportunity to work to a Nine Day Fortnight. This exciting development, supportive of colleagues' wellbeing, will see those who opt in have one day per fortnight (at school discretion and based on curriculum need) to use at their discretion at home for non-school related purposes.

As a school, and firmly based on research elsewhere, we believe this will enthuse, enhance and invigorate effective planning, classroom delivery, student engagement and the general wellbeing of all within our school community, staff and students alike.

As the successful candidate, you will also benefit from support, mentoring and development tailored to you, training linked to NPQML and NPQSL and further CPD supported by the Diocese and local providers. Colleagues flourish at St Thomas More Catholic School, and we offer fantastic career advancement for teachers at all levels.
