Full Job Description
The Fabric Engineer is responsible for delivering high-quality building fabric maintenance services across allocated sites, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient service delivery. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to the physical environment of our schools, supporting a safe and welcoming space for students and staff. What will you be responsible for? As a Fabric Engineer, you'll be working within the Sheffield Schools team, supporting them in maintaining the physical condition, integrity, and appearance of buildings. Your day to day will include:
- Carrying out planned and reactive fabric maintenance tasks including basic carpentry, minor building repairs, decoration, and plumbing repairs
- Completing planned preventative maintenance tasks in line with the maintenance schedule and accurately recording all works
- Responding to breakdowns and service requests promptly, diagnosing and rectifying faults within competency limits
- Conducting routine inspections of building fabric and ensuring compliance documentation is maintained
- Acting as a visible and approachable on-site presence, liaising with site users to resolve issues effectively
You have proven experience in a similar Fabric Engineer, Handyperson, or Maintenance role - You possess good understanding of building fabric maintenance and basic multi-trade skills in carpentry, plumbing, and decorating
- You have knowledge of health and safety and safe systems of work
- You're able to work independently, manage your workload effectively, and take a proactive approach to problem-solving
- You have strong communication and customer service skills with a friendly and professional manner
