Full Job Description

Our engineering department exists to translate creative ambition into buildable, coordinated solutions - turning ideas into the detailed designs, documentation, and technical plans that make delivery possible. The Senior Engineer is a lead within that department. On smaller and mid-scale projects they own the technical delivery end to end, from first brief to final handover. On larger, more complex projects they operate as a senior contributor within a wider engineering team - taking ownership of defined workstreams and bringing the same rigour, initiative, and quality to whatever they are responsible for. The scope of the project changes; the standard of ownership does not. The Senior Engineer is engaged across the full project lifecycle - from early involvement in pitches and proposals, through design development, to the detailed technical coordination that happens once a project becomes a physical reality. Working across audio, video, control, and networked systems, they take a brief, develop it into a fully resolved design, and remain the technical point of contact as that design moves into construction, installation, and commissioning. Making sure the creative intent is preserved through that transition - and that the people on site have what they actually need to deliver - is as much a part of the role as the drawing that preceded it. The experience the audience ultimately has depends on the quality of that chain, and the Senior Engineer never loses sight of it as the ultimate purpose of the work. Sysco's work is ambitious by nature. Briefs evolve, creative decisions shift, and no two projects follow the same path. The Senior Engineer moves with that - staying technically grounded and commercially aware, and acting as a steady, trusted presence for clients and the team through the inevitable curveballs that come with doing genuinely exciting work. The role acts as technical lead in design and coordination meetings, representing Sysco with clients, consultants, and contractors. They understand what the room needs to hear, not just what they need to say, and craft their message accordingly. Within the team, they bring structure and calm to complex situations - delegating effectively, mentoring graduate engineers, and supporting the continuous improvement of how the department works.,

  • Technical Design and Documentation. Own the production and quality of all engineering outputs on assigned projects - from layout drawings, rack layouts, and connection schematics to projection layouts, rigging plans, IP and media matrices, show control specifications, and O&M manuals. Delegate work within the team where appropriate, and ensure everything issued carries the rigour and accuracy Sysco's delivery depends on.
  • Project Coordination. Lead technical coordination across clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams on assigned projects. Ensure design decisions support delivery, and that the transition into installation and commissioning is clean, well-documented, and nothing is lost in handover.
  • Client Representation. Represent Sysco confidently in design and project meetings, translating complex engineering requirements clearly for technical and non-technical audiences. Build trusted working relationships with clients and external partners, and maintain that confidence through the inevitable changes and challenges a project brings.
  • Risk, Programme, and Commercial Awareness. Maintain a clear picture of project scope, risks, and constraints throughout delivery. Identify technical issues early, escalate appropriately, and support mitigation before problems affect programme or margin. Recognise when a challenge calls for specialist input - whether from internal teams, external contractors, or technical partners - and act on that early rather than late.
  • Team Dynamics and Development. Maintain visibility over team workload and flag capacity concerns in good time. Delegate project workload effectively to junior engineers, contribute to regular engineering catch-ups with clarity and purpose, and act as a mentor to graduate engineers - giving them the support and direction they need to develop and deliver.
  • Winning New Work. Brings technical credibility and knowledge to the pitch process - evaluating briefs, shaping solutions, and contributing to proposals with the same rigour as live delivery.
  • Continuous Improvement. Feeds project experience back into the team to strengthen Sysco's engineering processes and standards., Travel: Predominantly desk-based, with UK and international site visits where project delivery requires it
  • Contract: Full-time Key External Relationships: Client Teams, Project Stakeholders, Subcontractors, Suppliers, Freelance Labour Key Internal Relationships: Projects Team, Engineering, Business Support, Sales, Finance, Technical Services

  • Engineering depth. A degree in an engineering discipline, or a minimum of five years of relevant AV engineering experience. Strong working knowledge of IT, networking, and AV signal flow across audio, video, and control systems.
  • Design capability. Proven 2D (AutoCad) and 3D CAD experience. Extensive understanding of projection physics and current AV technology.
  • BIM awareness. Experience with BIM-led workflows and Revit is a significant advantage. An active interest in developing that capability is equally welcome.
  • Market awareness. Keeps up with developments in the AV marketplace - new products, emerging platforms, and shifting industry standards.
  • Clear communication. Translates complex technical information for a wide range of audiences. Thinks about what the person actually needs to understand, not just what needs to be said - and crafts their message accordingly.
  • Commercial awareness. Understands the commercial weight of technical decisions - how scope, specification, and programme choices affect margin, and why that matters as much as getting the engineering right.
  • Ownership and judgement. Manages multiple concurrent projects with accuracy and accountability. Knows when to solve, when to delegate, and when to escalate - and acts without being prompted.
  • Creative problem solving. Methodical and genuinely curious, with strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills. Brings the same quality of thinking to a schematic, a client meeting, or a difficult delivery question.
  • Collaborative by nature. Works constructively across teams, shares knowledge freely, and invests in the people around them.
  • Tools and technology. Digitally fluent and quick to pick up new platforms. Comfortable working across project management, design, and collaboration tools - and actively curious about how emerging technology, including AI, can improve the way they work.

At Sysco, we design and deliver experiences that move people. We work at the intersection of storytelling and technology, transforming museums, exhibitions, stadiums and cultural spaces into unforgettable journeys.
  • We design, deliver and install experiences that not only leave lasting impressions for audiences but also give our clients outstanding value, smooth delivery, and the confidence that their creative vision will be fully realised. Twenty years ago, we began with analogue storytelling in theatre and live performance. Today, we deliver cutting-edge digital technology across a range of creative environments, from immersive installations to large-scale placemaking, combining storytelling magic with engineering excellence.
