Full Job Description
The salary for this role is £40,609 (inclusive of Specialist Allowance - £3,100). Onsite working is expected for 4 days a week. However, during the initial months, more frequent onsite presence will be beneficial for training and onboarding. After this period, the onsite requirement may be reduced to 4 days in the office, depending on business needs. We actively support requests for flexible working.
This role is to be based at the following sites; Culham, Oxfordshire.
This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.
The Role
RACE (Remote Applications in Challenging Environments) is a key business unit of the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), specialising in the design, development, and operation of robotic and handling solutions for extreme environments.
At RACE, we develop and operate robotic remote handling solutions for extreme environments, utilising cutting-edge robotics and automation technologies. From our state-of-the-art facility in Culham, Oxfordshire, our team is focused on multi-year projects, delivering innovative solutions to a global client base. Join us as an Electrical Quality Engineer and play a key role in shaping the future of fusion energy remote handling systems.
You'll be responsible for the quality of electrical systems and implementing quality processes for electrical equipment and installations across our projects. You'll work closely with Design Engineers, Electrical System Engineers, Electrical Technicians, and Project Managers to ensure that electrical work packages meet the highest standards of manufacturing quality, are completed on time, within budget, and adhere to all required quality specifications.
If you are eager to interpret international regulations and directives related to the electrical discipline, and support engineering teams with process control, collect data on manufacturing quality, and communicate project status to stakeholders, we would love to hear from you. Key Accountabilities:
- Produce electrical quality documentation for large complex remote handling systems.
- Oversee the planning, design, and implementation of electrical installations over a variety of different projects within the RACE department.
- Review electrical schematics and BOMs for new prototype equipment and new operational equipment to be installed and commissioned.
- Oversee and peer review high quality layout designs for equipment, design enclosures and panels from schematics.
- Actively share knowledge, encourage a culture of quality, collect manufacturing quality data, and communicate project status to stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate and detailed project documentation, including system requirements, reports, drawings, and technical specifications.
Electrical Engineering or technology degree or HND/HNC, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to understand electrical design and relevant standards, including BS7671, BSEN60204 etc.
- Extensive practical experience in build and installation of electrical systems.
- Ability to interact efficiently with people in a variety of different situations.
- Able to produce high quality work to deadlines.
- Flexible working attitude with the ability to work as an individual or as a team member.
- Understanding of governance, H&S and compliance issues.
- Knowledge of Machining Directive, and quality standards and practices such as IS0 9001
Desirable:
- Incorporated engineer or working towards incorporation.
- Experience of safety critical Quality Management Systems - such as aerospace, military or equivalent.
