This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is committed to improving student outcomes, supporting families, and promoting excellent attendance and engagement. You will be a key member of our pastoral team, working closely with the Vice Principal for Behaviour & Safeguarding, the Attendance Officers, Pastoral Support Workers, SLT, and external agencies to ensure that every student is supported to thrive. Our ideal Education Welfare Officer will be a highly organised, detail-oriented professional with excellent communication skills. If you're passionate about leading on the strategic and operational management of attendance and engagement, ensuring that all students are safe, present and fully able to access their education, we would love to hear from you. What You'll Do In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Monitoring and improving attendance across the Academy, identifying patterns and addressing issues early.
- Building strong relationships with students, parents, carers, and colleagues to provide support and guidance.
- Conducting home visits and liaising with external agencies to resolve attendance and engagement issues.
- Maintaining accurate records and generating reports to inform interventions and Academy policy.
- Supporting early intervention strategies, including mentoring, guidance, and referrals to specialist services.
- Promoting positive engagement by celebrating attendance successes and encouraging students to reach their full potential.
- You will be at the heart of the Academy's efforts to create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment where every child feels valued, supported, and inspired to succeed. Who We're Looking For We are seeking a candidate who is:
- Empathetic and student-focused, with a genuine passion for improving young people's lives.
- Highly organised, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- A confident communicator, able to engage effectively with students, families, staff, and external partners.
- Proactive and solution-oriented, capable of identifying issues and taking appropriate action.
- Committed to safeguarding, with a clear understanding of the importance of confidentiality and child protection.
- Experience working in a school or with young people is highly desirable, as is knowledge of attendance legislation, educational welfare, and strategies to promote engagement. Why Join Westminster Academy?
- Be part of a supportive, high-performing, and innovative school community.
- Make a tangible impact on students' lives every day.
- Work in a collaborative team where your expertise and ideas are valued.
- Access excellent professional development opportunities to grow your career.
- Contribute to a school culture that celebrates achievement, resilience, and inclusion. The working basis for this position is Term Time + INSET days (Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week). This is a school-based role and will include school-wide activities and meetings. Westminster Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
