Full Job Description

We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive secondary school in Heswall, Wirral on a full-time basis, starting in September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people in their education and helping them achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support students both academically and personally, contributing to a positive, inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive. The Role As a Teaching Assistant, you will support teachers in delivering engaging lessons across a range of subject areas while providing one-to-one and small-group support to students aged 11-16 (and where applicable, post-16). You will play an important role in helping students overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, and remain engaged in the classroom. Key Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in delivering high-quality lessons across a range of curriculum subjects.
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students to reinforce learning and improve engagement.
  • Assist students with classwork, coursework, and independent learning activities.
  • Help prepare classroom resources and learning materials as required.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and support the implementation of the school's behaviour policy.
  • Promote students' confidence, independence, organisation, and study skills.
  • Support students with varying learning needs, adapting your approach where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and SEND colleagues to ensure students receive appropriate support.
  • Supervise students during lessons, examinations, educational visits, and other school activities when required.
  • Maintain accurate records where necessary and contribute to monitoring student progress.
  • Ensure safeguarding responsibilities are carried out in accordance with school policies and statutory guidance.

    Previous experience working with young people in a secondary school, educational, youth work, or similar setting is desirable.
  • A Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3) is desirable but not essential.
  • Good literacy, numeracy, and communication skills.
  • A calm, patient, and positive approach to supporting young people.
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team while using initiative when required.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
