Full Job Description

A specialist SEMH provision in Crosby, Merseyside is seeking a dedicated, resilient, and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join its supportive team. The school provides education and therapeutic support for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom have experienced trauma, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), attachment difficulties, or barriers to learning. The school is committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where every young person feels valued, supported, and empowered to achieve both academically and personally. The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping pupils develop confidence, resilience, emotional regulation, and positive relationships while supporting them to engage successfully in learning.,

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual pupils' social, emotional, and learning needs.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils through consistency, patience, and a trauma-informed approach.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social development using positive behaviour strategies.
  • Assist in implementing individual support plans, Behaviour Support Plans, and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Help create a calm, structured, and engaging learning environment that promotes inclusion and positive outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, pastoral staff, therapists, and external professionals to support pupils' progress.
  • Promote pupils' independence, self-esteem, attendance, and engagement throughout the school day.
  • Support pupils during lessons, breaktimes, educational visits, and enrichment activities where required.

    ect, qts, l1 ta, l2 ta, l3 ta, level 1 teaching assistant, level 2 teaching assistant, level 3 teaching assistant, hlta, high level teaching assistant, Have experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs, behavioural needs, or other additional learning needs.
  • Be calm, resilient, empathetic, and able to remain positive in challenging situations.
  • Have excellent behaviour management skills and the ability to build strong, professional relationships.
  • Demonstrate a nurturing, patient, and flexible approach to supporting pupils.
  • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Have the right to work in the UK and be available to work full-time., Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience working within an SEMH, PRU, Alternative Provision, or specialist school.
  • Team Teach, MAPA, PRICE, or equivalent positive behaviour/de-escalation training.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, attachment awareness, or restorative approaches.
