Full Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist SEND provision in Woolton, Liverpool, supporting secondary-aged pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), moderate to severe learning difficulties, and associated communication and social-emotional needs.,
- Deliver planned learning activities to individuals, small groups, and whole classes under the guidance of teaching staff.
- Provide whole-class cover when required, ensuring continuity of learning and maintaining positive behaviour standards.
- Support the delivery of personalised learning programmes tailored to pupils' EHCP outcomes and individual needs.
- Deliver targeted interventions focused on literacy, numeracy, communication, social skills, emotional regulation, and preparation for adulthood.
- Support pupils with autism, learning difficulties, sensory needs, and associated behavioural challenges using consistent and positive approaches.
- Implement communication strategies, including visual supports, social stories, PECS, Makaton, or AAC systems where appropriate.
- Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to review meetings and annual reviews.
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation through restorative and trauma-informed practices.
- Support pupils during vocational activities, enrichment sessions, educational visits, and life-skills learning opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENDCOs, therapists, pastoral teams, families, and external agencies to ensure pupils receive consistent support.
- Contribute to safeguarding, wellbeing, and the creation of a safe and supportive learning environment.
Hold HLTA status or a relevant Level 4 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent). - Have recent experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly autism and learning difficulties.
- Be confident leading learning activities and managing groups of secondary-aged pupils independently.
- Demonstrate an understanding of autism-friendly practice, behaviour support strategies, and inclusive education.
- Possess excellent communication, organisational, and relationship-building skills.
- Be resilient, patient, adaptable, and committed to achieving positive outcomes for young people with additional needs.
- Have the right to work in the UK and be available to work full-time. Desirable:
- Experience within a specialist SEND school, resource provision, or alternative provision setting.
- Knowledge of EHCP processes and preparation for adulthood pathways.
- Training in PECS, Makaton, AAC, Team Teach, MAPA, or other positive behaviour support approaches.
- Experience supporting pupils with sensory processing needs, SEMH needs, or complex communication difficulties.
- First Aid or safeguarding qualifications.
