Full Job Description

Are you a passionate, proactive educator who believes every young person deserves the chance to reach their full potential? This is a rare and genuinely rewarding opportunity to join a specialist secondary school dedicated to supporting autistic students, including those who are non-verbal or pre-verbal, within a therapeutic, community-led environment. With small class sizes of just 10 to 15 students and an exceptional team of 4 to 5 teaching assistants within your classroom, you will have the space and support to truly know each learner and deliver teaching that makes a lasting difference. What you will be doing

  • Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons aligned to the National Curriculum SEN framework
  • Carrying out ongoing formative and summative assessment, tracking individual student progress against EHCP targets
  • Communicating proactively with parents and carers, including attending parents' evenings once per term
  • Building meaningful relationships with autistic and non-verbal learners using therapeutic interventions, AAC strategies, and low arousal approaches
  • Leading your classroom team, directing TA support to maximise outcomes for every student
  • Contributing positively to the wider school community and embracing continuous professional development
  • The support structure around you You will never work in isolation. A comprehensive support network is in place to help you thrive:
  • Phase Lead for day-to-day guidance and mentoring
  • Dedicated Behaviour Support Team
  • Supportive and approachable Senior Leadership Team (SLT)
  • 4 to 5 teaching assistants within your classroom
  • Ongoing specialist training and CPD opportunities
  • Leading facilities designed for specialist provision
  • About the school This school is built on a community ethos. The focus is always on developing each student's individual potential - equipping autistic young people with the independence skills, life skills and confidence they need to thrive in adult life. The approach is unique, rooted in therapeutic interventions and a deep commitment to person-centred, holistic education. Why you will love it here:
  • Small class sizes of 10 to 15 students per class
  • 4 to 5 dedicated TAs supporting you in the classroom
  • Continuous CPD and specialist training provided throughout the year
  • Therapeutic, neurodiversity-affirming approach to teaching and learning
  • Strong, collaborative multi-disciplinary team
  • Proactive, forward-thinking culture where your ideas are valued
  • A setting where your work genuinely changes lives every single day

QTS (or on track to achieve it)
  • Understanding of autism spectrum condition (ASC) and experience working with autistic or non-verbal learners
  • Knowledge of AAC strategies, Makaton, PECS, TEACCH or similar communication approaches (desirable)
  • A proactive, creative and resilient approach to specialist teaching
  • Strong communication skills for working with families and multi-agency teams
  • Genuine commitment to inclusive, community-led education
  • Passion for supporting young people with complex needs on their journey to independence
