Full Job Description

Educato Recruitment is looking for an experienced and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join a mainstream primary school in Little Hulton, supporting within their dedicated inclusion base. The inclusion base supports a small group of approximately 4 children who are currently unable to access full-time learning within the mainstream classroom due to their additional needs. Working closely alongside the class teacher, you will help deliver core learning in a smaller, more structured environment, supporting pupils with autism, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and behaviours that can challenge. The school is looking for someone who is confident managing behaviour, patient in their approach and able to adapt their support to meet the individual needs of each child. Key Responsibilites:

  • Support the class teacher in delivering core subjects including English and Maths within the inclusion base.
  • Work with a small group of approximately 4 pupils with varying SEN needs.
  • Provide tailored learning support to children with autism, SEMH and behavioural difficulties.
  • Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies to support emotional regulation.
  • Help pupils engage with learning through structured routines, adapted activities and individual interventions.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, encouraging independence, confidence and progress.
  • Support pupils with their social and emotional development, with the aim of increasing their ability to access mainstream learning where appropriate.

Previous experience working with children with SEN, particularly autism and SEMH.
  • Confidence supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour or struggle to regulate their emotions.
  • A calm, resilient and proactive approach.
  • Ability to work closely with the class teacher and adapt to the needs of a small group.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management and the importance of consistency and routine.
  • An enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to process a new one.
  • This is a great opportunity for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant who enjoys working in a smaller, more focused learning environment. You'll be part of a supportive school team, helping children overcome barriers to learning and make meaningful progress both academically and emotionally. This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS (child and adult workforce), satisfactory references, and full compliance with KCSIE (2026) guidance and safer recruitment standards. Overseas police checks may be required where applicable.
