Or you've worked in a specialist setting and like the idea of supporting children within a broader mainstream school community., Your role will include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support
• Supporting pupils with autism and moderate to severe learning difficulties
• Using appropriate communication strategies
• Helping pupils access learning at an appropriate level
• Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
• Encouraging communication, interaction and social development
• Developing independence wherever possible
• Following EHCPs and individual support plans
• Implementing agreed therapeutic and behaviour strategies
• Sharing observations and progress with colleagues
• Working alongside teachers, the SENCO, therapists and support staff
  
  You'll be working with pupils who require consistent, individualised support to communicate, regulate, learn and participate successfully in school life.
Some children may use spoken language confidently. Others may communicate using PECS, Makaton or another Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) approach. Some pupils may access parts of mainstream school life independently while requiring significantly more support at other times. You'll learn each child's individual approach and work with the wider team to provide consistency., But you will need to be patient, resilient and comfortable adapting your communication and support around individual children. Experience or training in any of the following would be particularly useful:
• PECS
• Makaton
• British Sign Language (BSL)
• AAC
• Team Teach
• MAPA
• Positive behaviour support

Full-time availability is preferred, although part-time candidates will also be considered. Could This Become Your Permanent School? A temp-to-perm role gives you something a short placement can't. You get time to know the children. The children get time to know you. And both you and the school get the opportunity to decide whether it's the right long-term fit.
