Full Job Description

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a specialist secondary setting, the role is to support students aged 11-16 who require additional pastoral, behavioural and emotional support. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys building positive relationships with young people and helping them achieve their full potential both inside and outside the classroom. Working closely with the school's pastoral and safeguarding teams, you will provide tailored support to students who may be experiencing barriers to learning, attendance or engagement, helping them develop confidence, resilience and a positive attitude towards education. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group mentoring sessions to support students' emotional wellbeing and personal development
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with young people to encourage positive engagement in education
  • Working alongside families to help address barriers affecting attendance and school participation
  • Promoting positive behaviour, independence and confidence throughout the school day
  • Delivering wellbeing and life skills activities that encourage resilience, communication and self-esteem
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external professionals to ensure students receive consistent support
  • Keeping accurate records of interventions, progress and outcomes while contributing to support plans and review meetings
  • Acting as a positive role model who encourages students to achieve their individual goals

    Experience working with children or young people, ideally within education, youth work, social care or a similar setting
  • A calm, patient and empathetic approach with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Confidence managing challenging behaviour in a positive and supportive manner
  • Ability to build professional relationships with students, families and colleagues
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
