Full Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity to join Shropshire Council's legal team. You will manage a varied education law caseload, providing clear, practical advice across SEND, school admissions, exclusions, complaints, equality duties, tribunal proceedings and judicial review, while also supporting the Council's maintained schools.
As a member of Legal and Democratic Services, you will ensure the delivery of legal services in accordance with the Council's core values and service standards. The post is responsible for the provision of legal services to Children's Services. As a member of Legal and Democratic Services the post holder may be called upon to support or cover for colleagues or undertake work and training relevant to the Service's activities.
You will be a qualified solicitor, barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with litigation and advocacy rights, bringing sound professional judgement and the confidence to take ownership of a varied and rewarding caseload. You will have at least two years' post-qualification experience in education law, SEND law or general litigation, with the ability to translate complex issues into clear, practical and well-reasoned advice.
You will be curious, adaptable and committed to developing your expertise. Strong written and verbal communication, careful analysis and an organised approach will enable you to manage cases, files and competing priorities effectively.
