Full Job Description

Solihull Council is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Ecologist to join our award-winning, multi-disciplinary Heritage, Environment and Design team committed to protecting and enhancing our natural, built and historic environment. Working within Solihull Council's Planning Service, you will join our experienced ecologist and collaborate with planners, conservation officers, landscape architects and urban design professionals. In this dynamic role, you will provide timely specialist ecological advice, undertake surveys and produce high-quality technical reports. You will also review selected planning applications and contribute to the plan-making process, supporting colleagues across both Development Management and Planning Policy. The role also involves developing and delivering nature conservation projects, habitat management plans and related strategies in partnership with Council teams, external organisations and volunteer groups.

You will have:

  • A degree or post graduate qualification in Ecology or closely related subject.
  • Good working knowledge of British ecology and nature conservation priorities, including the role of nature conservation in the planning process and the legislative and policy framework.
  • Experience in delivering habitat enhancement and the management of different habitats.
  • Project management skills.
  • Understanding of relevant biodiversity and ecological policy and legislation., We are committed to protecting and enhancing Solihull's unique character, supporting both wellbeing and sustainable growth.
