Full Job Description

Wearhead Primary School is part of a federation of six small rural primary schools. The Executive Headteachers and Governing Board of the Durham Dales Partnership are seeking to appoint an outstanding, enthusiastic, and dynamic Early Years Educator Apprentice to join our school from September 2026. The successful candidate will be keen to develop their knowledge of child development and will be a proactive and committed member of the team. They will work closely with our friendly and highly experienced staff and contribute to building upon the school's strong standards. The role requires high expectations, a positive attitude, and a willingness to participate fully in all aspects of school life. The successful candidate will:

  • Provide high-quality care and education for young children
  • Demonstrate a positive 'can-do' attitude and show resilience
  • Work effectively as part of the Wearhead Primary School team, while also using their own initiative
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers
  • Attend and engage fully in training relevant to the post

    The working pattern will be as follows: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: 8.30am - 4.30pm Thursday: Day release at Bishop Auckland College Friday: 8.30am - 4.00pm The training provider for this apprenticeship will be Bishop Auckland College, and the successful candidate will be required to attend college on a Thursday., Further information about the apprenticeship can be found at https://www.gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship Standard term time only pay is calculated on the basis of the following:
  • Number of 'teaching' weeks - 38 weeks; plus
  • Public (bank) holidays - 1.6 weeks (8 days); plus
  • Individual leave entitlement - 5.4 weeks (27 days) or 6.4 weeks (32 days)
  • Individual leave entitlement is calculated on the length of continuous service. Employees with less than 5 years' service will receive 27 days annual leave. Employees with more than 5 years' service will receive 32 days annual leave. For example: Calculation for employees with less than 5 years' service: 38 weeks (term time) + 27 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 45 weeks' pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments Calculation for employees with more than 5 years' service: 38 weeks (term time) + 32 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 46 weeks' pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments.
