Full Job Description
English Teacher (ECT)
Are you an ECT English Teacher looking for the right school to actually develop, not just survive your first year? We're working with a well-led secondary school in the Essex / East London area seeking an Early Career Teacher of English for a September start. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity with strong potential to go permanent.
What makes this school worth your time?
- Structured and supportive ECT programme (you won't be left to figure it out alone)
- Experienced SLT who understand workload and retention (rare, but it happens)
- Clear behaviour systems in place - consistency across the school
- Strong department with shared resources and collaborative planning
- Mix of ability levels, with good support for SEND and EAL learners
The role
- Teach English across KS3-KS4 (KS5 available depending on confidence)
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned to the national curriculum
- Use assessment effectively to track progress and support attainment
- Build positive relationships and maintain strong classroom routines
- Contribute to the wider life of the school and English department
What we're looking for
- ECT with QTS (or pending QTS by September)
- Strong subject knowledge in English Literature and Language
- Confident classroom presence with a willingness to learn and develop
- Commitment to inclusive teaching and supporting all learners
- Open to feedback, coaching, and professional growth
Location: Essex / East London border - easily accessible via public transport and road links.
Why this role? This is a school that understands the difference between: "giving an ECT a job" and "actually developing a teacher properly". If you're looking for a first role where you'll be supported, challenged, and set up to succeed long-term, this is worth a conversation. Apply now or get in touch to discuss the school and opportunity in more detail
