The EAL Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring our EAL students can access the curriculum and achieve their full academic potential.   • Designing and delivering targeted EAL lessons and/or interventions
  • Support classroom teachers in adapting lessons for EAL learners
  • Track and adjust student progress according to need
  • Scheduling and undertaking admissions interviews, to include liaising with agents and admissions staff. This involves initial assessments of the English proficiency of potential new students and advising on/assessment of a suitable program of study
  • Timetabling classes for EAL students in collaboration with SMT and Digital Services
  • Collaborating with SENDCo regarding EAL students' SEN requirements, supporting in exam arrangements, managing parental communications in relation to SEN and testing
  • Supporting EAL students in choosing and changing options and sets for programs of study. Liaising with academic colleagues and SMT/Digital Services on changes
  • Organising events for EAL pupils, such as birthday cards and cakes and a celebration for Chinese New Year
  • Setting up Online Parents Evening Meetings for international families, agreeing details with the boarding team, DoS and IT as well as collating comments from Teachers to feedback
  • Advance planning for the student Noodle bar and supporting on the day arrangements, where time allows
  • Creating Departmental Development Plan and Departmental Review

    This role involves supporting pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL) across a range of subjects, helping them to access the curriculum and develop their English skills in both spoken and written form. You will be working with students on a one-to-one basis as well as in small groups, focusing on vocabulary development, classroom integration, and providing tailored academic support. This will involve a content and language integrated learning (CLIL) approach, teaching subject vocabulary as well as reading and writing skills. Sixth form pupils may be prepared for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam, which can be used as a university entrance qualification., Cambridge CELTA, Level 5 TEFL Certificate, (or equivalent recognised
  • qualification) - Prior experience working in schools or educational settings (applications without this experience will not be considered). - Experience of, and ability to support, a range of GCSE and A Level subjects - Experience of preparing students for language exams - Excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff - Ability to adopt a patient and adaptable approach, with a genuine commitment to supporting students in their learning - Demonstrate confidence in supporting pupils from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds - Strong understanding of language acquisition - Well-developed cultural awareness and sensitivity - Adaptable and proactive in problem-solving - Well-versed in promoting equality, diversity and inclusion - Be a reflective practitioner and respond positively to feedback - Show clear commitment to safeguarding children - Perform any other activities which are reasonably requested by the Line Manager - Understand and have a willingness to adapt and contribute to the needs of an independent boarding school Desirable Skills - - Cambridge DELTA, Level 7 TEFL Diploma, (or equivalent recognised qualification) - MA TESOL - PGCE TEFL/QTS - Previous experience in a leadership or coordination role - Multilingual - Experience of preparing students for IELTS
