Full Job Description
Patient administration underpins the patient journey, supporting clinical teams in delivering high quality patient care and can make a real difference to the patient experience. Effective and efficient patient administration supports management through ensuring a high standard of data quality and by making the best use of capacity and resources. The post holder has responsibility for the provision of a professional, comprehensive and efficient administrative service, which is effectively delivered to all patients and members of the department. This will be through the delivery of a comprehensive administrative service to a specialty team. This will involve providing a full administration service to the consultant team and taking responsibility for managing the whole patient pathway in line with the Elective Access Policy., The post holder has responsibility for the provision of a professional, comprehensive and efficient administrative service, which is effectively delivered to all patients and members of the department. This will involve providing a full administration service to the consultant team and taking responsibility for managing the whole patient pathway in line with the Elective Access Policy., 1. Administrative support (DTU) 1. Use EPR to capture all patient activity on a daily basis within DTU; this includes being able to complete waiting lists, admissions/discharges, ward attenders and appointments. 2. Use other software systems, such as ARIA, to ensure input of data on to EPR is correct. 3. Have thorough knowledge of 18 weeks of referral to treatment in relation to patients and how this applies to patients being referred to oncology/haematology. 4. Answer the telephone and take messages from patients, relatives, doctors, allied health care professionals, etc., and deal with any queries as appropriate. 5. Receiving and storing Chemotherapy appropriately to ensure that wastage and further charges are not incurred 6. Helping patients with application of parking permits and validating parking 7. Using Microsoft Package daily 8. Ensuring that electronic patient records are current and scanning in any necessary paper documentation in advance of the patient's visit to DTU 9. Helping the clinical team ensure DTU is a clean and safe environment 2. Reception/Ward Clerk Role (DTU and Outpatients) Be responsible for greeting all new patients, relatives, and visitors and direct them to the appropriate member of staff/area while demonstrating excellent communication skills when dealing with patients, relatives, and members of the multidisciplinary team, utilising sensitivity, empathy, and the ability to manage conflict. Answer the telephone courteously and direct inquiries as appropriate. Liaise with other departments within the hospital to book any requested investigations. Assist with any transport queries as required, checking the system for the week ahead, and updating clinical staff of any patients arriving on hospital transport with additional requirements. Liaise daily with the ambulance team to coordinate the return trip when patients arrive and schedule this when the patient is ready to depart. Be responsible for updating EPR and ARIA. Assist with resolution for IT queries equipment or software (e.g. carts). As needed, offer coverage to staff the outpatient reception, working with the team there to ensure that all necessary tasks are carried out and finished on time., The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
