Full Job Description
The Director of the Brighton Doctoral College (BDC) reports directly to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Knowledge Exchange) (PVC RKE). Firmly committed to the University's values, the post holder will directly contribute to ensuring that the actions that relate to postgraduate researchers (PGRs) arising from the University Research and Knowledge Exchange Strategic Plan (derived from the Distinctively Brighton 2035 Strategy) are implemented effectively; provide University-wide academic leadership to academic colleagues, staff in the BDC and PGRs. The Director will focus on initiatives to increase the recruitment of PGRs, strengthen the research culture of PGRs, enhance the student voice and ensure that the delivery and quality of PGR provision is sector-leading.
The Director of the BDC will be expected to work closely with the Associate Directors - Research; Knowledge Exchange; and Contracts, Intellectual Property, and Governance; the Directors of the Centres of Research Excellence (COREs), and the Departmental Research and Knowledge Exchange Co-ordinators. They will drive strategic initiatives to increase PGR student recruitment, including the establishment of funding streams; facilitate the establishment and development of PGR activities and capabilities to drive excellence; support the continued growth of our research and knowledge exchange culture; and enhance the experience of PGR students.
