Information About The Post

Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester which is proud to be rated by Ofsted as 'outstanding' in every respect. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College.

We have an opportunity for an experienced professional to join our College as Director of Safeguarding & Support, supporting the Deputy Principal (Welfare & Progression) in managing the College's student support, pastoral and safeguarding work. The role includes managing complex safeguarding and pastoral cases, responding to students in crisis, supporting Fitness to Study and Return to Study processes, and working with students, parents, external agencies and College staff. You will also act as a team leader for the Senior Tutor team, ensuring efficient management of key College processes and consistency and quality of pastoral support and intervention across the College.

You will have extensive experience of safeguarding and student casework, with strong communication and organisational skills. You will have excellent judgement and personal resilience, alongside empathy for young people and a detailed understanding of safeguarding matters. Experience of working in a sixth form or post-16 setting would be highly desirable, as would experience of leading or supporting a team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to take on a significant role in the College's student support and safeguarding provision. You will be at the heart of ensuring the safety, wellbeing and progression of our students and will work closely with colleagues across the College to maintain the high standards of support for which Peter Symonds is known.

This is a full-time contract with a teacher's terms and conditions at its base, so you will be a member of the Teachers' Pension Scheme unless you opt out. You will be expected to work term time and Enrolment Week plus ten additional days above the normal teaching contract.
