Full Job Description
The role: The Director of Football will work in close partnership with the Master-in-Charge of Football to provide joint leadership of football at Harrow and to deliver the strategic vision for the game across the School. The role combines significant contact time through coaching, player and coach development and the delivery of the football programme, with non-contact time dedicated to programme development, planning, recruitment, coach development, external relationships and administration. The Director will maintain a visible and consistent presence across the football programme, including training and fixture days, and will contribute to the wider sporting life of the School throughout the year.
The skills: This is an unusual opportunity for a leading practitioner with a UEFA B Licence or equivalent recognised coaching qualification to oversee the next stage of the development of the game in the School and build on the excellent work of recent years. The successful candidate will have an acknowledged track record of success in the game as a player and coach and is likely to include involvement within professional or academy football in some capacity. Experience of coaching high performing age group players is essential, though this may not necessarily be in an educational environment. The ability to build a team of coaches and support staff, and oversee their work is vital.
- Contract length: Permanent
- Working hours: 40 per week, to include Saturdays and occasional Sundays
- Working weeks: Full time, 37 weeks per year (term time plus four weeks in the holidays), free lunch
- free parking
- automatic enrolment in the School's pension scheme
- use of the School's sports facilities such as the swimming pool, gym, and running track.
- subsidised membership of the tennis, golf, angling and social clubs. The environment: Harrow School is situated in Harrow on the Hill, northwest London, and is one of the best-known schools in the world. Around 840 boys study at Harrow and live in the School's 12 boarding houses. Sport and exercise are an important part of life at Harrow which has a long and illustrious sports heritage. A large staff is involved in delivering high quality coaching across the programme. There are 25 Masters-in-Charge of sports and over 70 teaching staff regularly involved in sports coaching. Additionally, there are 60 professional coaches, as well as a lead professional in each of the major sports. Applications will be processed as they are received and interviews may take place before the closing date, so early application is recommended. Equality, diversity and inclusion are values that are important to us at Harrow. We believe in diversity of thought and actively welcome everyone regardless of their background to bring their valuable and relevant skills to our community.
